About This Tool

This reconstitution reference calculator assists laboratory researchers in determining the concentration of a reconstituted peptide solution. Enter the vial size and the volume of bacteriostatic water to be added, and the calculator will display the resulting concentration in micrograms (mcg) per unit on a standard 100-unit insulin syringe.

Recommended options: Elfsight Calculator Widget, POWR Calculator, or a custom Liquid/JavaScript implementation using the formula below.]

Calculation Formula

The calculator uses the following formula:

  • Total mcg in vial = Vial size (mg) × 1,000
  • Concentration (mcg/ml) = Total mcg ÷ Bacteriostatic water volume (ml)
  • mcg per unit (IU) = Concentration (mcg/ml) ÷ 100

Example Calculation

Example: 10mg vial reconstituted with 2ml bacteriostatic water:

  • Total mcg = 10 × 1,000 = 10,000 mcg
  • Concentration = 10,000 ÷ 2 = 5,000 mcg/ml
  • mcg per unit = 5,000 ÷ 100 = 50 mcg per unit

Reconstitution Notes for Researchers

  • Always use bacteriostatic water (0.9% benzyl alcohol) for peptide reconstitution in research settings.
  • Reconstituted peptide solutions should be stored at 2-8°C and used within 30 days.
  • Lyophilized peptide powder should be stored at -20°C until reconstitution.
  • Allow vial to reach room temperature before adding bacteriostatic water.
  • Add water gently to the side of the vial — do not inject directly onto the peptide cake.
  • Swirl gently — do not shake — until peptide is fully dissolved.
